Get Involved

There are a lot of ways to get involved with Public Works and the City of Meridian, from painting fire hydrants to learning more about the Public Works processes through a fun tour. Check out a some of the ways below. We hope to see you at a few of this year's activities!

Hydrant Painting

Each year, we seek volunteers to help us keep the fire hydrants throughout Meridian looking good. The bright red color is not only iconic, it serves an important purpose, allowing firefighters to easily identify the nearest hydrant in an emergency situation. Our volunteers have ranged from seniors in high school to senior citizens, from boy scouts to retired couples with a extra time in their day. If you are interested in getting on this summer's paint crew, please contact us below.

Poop Scoot Fun Run

Please join us for the 2019 Poop Scoot Fun Run - a FREE, family friendly event, as we walk, jog, and run into this year's Public Works Week. The Poop Scoot will kick off the City of Meridian's Public Works Week events. This year, the event will be held at Kleiner Park, with registration beginning at 8AM. Register now to join in the fun and learn more about your local Public Works department! This event is free, but a donation of a toiletry or food item for a local charity would be greatly appreciated!

Go with the Flow Tour

On the Go with the Flow Tour participants will have the opportunity to step inside our historic water tower, learn how we drill for Meridian's drinking water, watch an emergency water supply drill, descend into the depths of a lift station, and take a walking tour of the wastewater treatment facility. This tour takes you behind the scenes of the water and sewer operations, giving you a unique look at these vital city services. Register today to find out where your water comes from and where it goes after you flush.

The Go with the Flow Tour is FREE and available to those 12 years and older. A sandwich dinner is provided to tour goers. Please expect to spend (approximately) 3.5 hours on the tour. The duration can vary based on the amount of questions we get along the way -- which are welcomed! Tour goers should dress for weather, and wear close-toed walking shoes. Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions. Space is limited and this event fills up quickly. If space is full you can register to be on the waitlist, In this case, you will be notified if spaces become available.

We look forward to giving you a glimpse into the world of Public Works!
